The Wonder of Us

The Wonder of Us is a companion narrative to How Private Equity State Capitalism Consumes Democracy. It connects the dots between America's past and its present: from enslavement and colonization to the gutting of DEI programs and the rise of authoritarian politics. America’s racial history and State Capitalism are the same story, told in different languages. Governmental systems and structures that extracted wealth from enslaved people, from stolen Indigenous land, and from working-class Black communities are the original "political model," now dressed up as effective governance. Resistance to racial and social hierarchies is a tribute to the strength of those who endured, resisted, and kept the fire of freedom burning. It is a roadmap for truth-telling, the community, and the kind of democracy that includes all of us. We are not asking for a seat at the table. We built the table.
